Blake Shelton – Red River Blue released   by Mona Geller

Blake Shelton is an American country music artist. He is the current CMA Male Vocalist of the Year, and he starred as a coach in the popular NBC talent show, “The Voice.” He was born in Milburn, Oklahoma to Richard, a used car dealer, and Dorothy, a beauty salon owner. He began singing at an early age and by age 12, he learned to play guitar. By age sixteen, Shelton had received a Denbo Diamond Award in his home state. On November 13, 1990, his older brother Richie, who was 24 at the time, died in a car accident. He has an older sister, Endy. At age 17, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee in pursuit of a recording career.

Shelton was married to longtime girlfriend Kaynette Williams on November 17, 2003. They were divorced in 2006. As of 2006, he began dating fellow country singer Miranda Lambert, whom he met at the CMT’s 100 Greatest Duets Concert. The two got married on May 14, 2011 at Don Strange Ranch in Boerne, Texas. Five hundred fifty people were in attendance, including many celebrities. They are enjoying newlywed bliss following their May nuptials. The couple, who met after being asked to perform together for CMT’s ‘100 Greatest Duets Concert’ in 2006, dated five years before finally tying the knot. Still, they both acknowledge that in spite of their long trip to the altar, they knew early on they had an extraordinary connection — even though one of them was unavailable at the time.

He released his sixth studio album “Red River Blue” on July 12, 2011. With state-of-the-art production by Scott Hendricks and Grade A Music Row hit material from the top of Nashville’s songwriting heap, including Craig Wiseman, Rhett Akins, Ben Hayslip, Chris Stapleton, Chris DuBois, Ashley Gorley and Jon Randall, the album hits all the predictable marks. Singing with more confidence than ever, and collecting solid songs that highlight his playful personality and his vocal talent, Shelton adds fuel to the upward trajectory with the best album of his career. His current hit, “Honey Bee,” is his fourth consecutive No. 1, setting records for a male country singer in how fast it reached gold in digital sales. The song shows that he’s lost some rascal magnetism, but he’s winning sweetness points. The album’s second single, “God Gave Me You,” is a power ballad that is a sure bet to become a big wedding song. It hooks you with a great, simple opening line: “I’ve been a walking heartache//I’ve made a mess of me//The person that I’ve been lately//Ain’t who I wanna be.” Shelton has said he heard the song at a low point in his relationship with Lambert, and he knew he had to record it. The lyrics were originally written by Christian rock singer Dave Barnes.

Max Ophüls explores the scandalous life of dancer and courtesan Lola Montes with a bittersweet empathy that turns melodrama into a tragic melancholy masterpiece. Using the theatrical re-creation of Lola’s life in a big-top pageant as a framing device, Ophüls contrasts the outrageous sensationalism of her reputation with poignant, poetic flashbacks that explore her many affairs, most notably with…

This animated feature-length life of Jesus boasts a stellar pedigree. Hans Christian Andersen (With Original Theatrical Trailer) [VHS]

Of all the Danny Kaye movies, this musical biography of the legendary vagabond storyteller is definitely the most poignant, extending the performer’s range far beyond his usual comic shtick. It may not be as funny as Wonder Man, but it has so much more going for it. In fact, the film is really more about Kaye than Andersen, providing rare insight into his humanitarian ideals and rapport with child…

The Fighter

The Fighter

$4.98

It would be a mistake to confuse The Fighter with the story of Mark Wahlberg, though the similarities are striking. Completely convincing as a boxer, Wahlberg plays welterweight Micky Ward, who grew up in working-class Massachusetts. Like the actor-producer, he had eight siblings, one more famous than the rest. Ward’s half-brother, Dicky Eklund (a gaunt, crazy-eyed Christian Bale), turned to boxin…
